Mission Statement

The mission of the Metropolitan Asian Deaf Association (MADA) is to empower and preserve Asian cultural values within the Deaf community in the Greater New York Metropolitan Area and beyond.

MADA is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the Asian Deaf Community through support services, cultural preservation, community engagement, and civic engagement.

We aim to foster an environment where Deaf Asian American individuals can thrive with confidence, pride, self-esteem, and robust community support, ensuring they have access to resources, advocacy, and support needed to thrive.

Mission Goal

MADA’s work is deeply rooted in the needs and aspirations of the Deaf Asian American community in the Greater New York Metropolitan Area.

The organizing and advocacy goals of MADA are centered on creating a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant community for Deaf Asian Americans through empowerment, support services, community engagement, systemic change, racial justice, leadership development, and collaborative efforts.

Deaf Asian Social Hour

When: October 4, 2025 at 1pm – 6pm

Deaf Asian Seniors Day

When: October 11, 2025 at 9am – 5pm
Where: Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons
Address: 10467 White Granite Drive at Oakton, VA. 22124.

Join a full day of gathering and support for Deaf Asian Seniors. This free community event features presentations, social activities, and networking opportunities. While the event highlights Deaf Asian seniors, everyone is welcome, including individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of Hearing, and Late-Deafened, regardless of cultural or ethnic background.

Volunteers are needed to assist senior citizens with registration, navigation, and activities throughout the day. Help make a difference in our elders’ lives while building community connections.

Family members and caregivers are also welcome to volunteer and support the event.

Food and refreshments provided. ASL interpretation available.

ASL STEM Day

When: October 25, 2025 at 11am – 5pm 
Where: NYU (Silver Center)

We’re excited to welcome 2 ASL STEM Leaders – Asma and Sheila!
 
Asma Wahid, a Deaf Pakistani chemist and current PhD candidate at New York University. Her work on integrating sign language into chemistry education earned her the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Diversity and Inclusion Award in 2022. Come do exciting chemistry experiment with her at ASL STEM Day. 
 
Sheila Xu, Director of Development & researcher at AstroAccess, and an aspiring astronaut! She’s breaking barriers and proving that space can be accessible for everyone — including Deaf and hard of hearing people. Come do exciting space experiment with her.
